We’re delighted to introduce to you our first ever London Marathon runners all set to take part in the iconic 26-mile race on Sunday 26th April 2026.
Meet Calum Hider, a radio producer from London who was a good friend of Joe’s during their time at Capital Radio. Calum remembers Joe as a truly wonderful soul, even though as an Arsenal fan Joe’s loyalty to Spurs was always a constant test of their friendship.
Calum fully admits that before embarking on this challenge he was no runner but being
a great friend of Joe’s he has felt inspired by the work of Joe’s Buddy Line and is ready to give the Marathon his absolute all. Now well into his training he’s happy to say that it’s going well and confesses that he doesn’t hate running anymore, he’s dropped a shirt size and January has also seen him getting back into the gym and looking after what he eats & drinks, so lots of positives coming from it. Outside of running and producing Capital Breakfast, Calum is of course a big Arsenal football fan going home & away to watch them, just recently in Milan!
He also loves a good pint of Guinness and will certainly be looking forward to one or two after he crosses the finish line.
In Calum’s words “This challenge is definitely outside my comfort zone, but with the incredible support from those who loved Joe, I’m ready to give it everything I’ve got, and I can’t help but picture Joe up there somewhere, roaring with laughter as I huff and puff my way around central London in his honour.”

Delighted to introduce you to Alex Doe, another good friend of Joe’s who is also a radio producer and regular runner from Frome. Alex admits that he has felt quite helpless in the past about how and what he could do to help, so taking part in the London Marathon is a fantastic opportunity to raise money and awareness for a charity so close to his heart.
In Alex’s words, “my Marathon training has been going well so far, I made an 18-week plan and I’m just religiously sticking with it for now! It’s great having this to focus on and having the time to clear my head on a run. I’m also really thankful to my wife Katy for giving me the time I need to head out for the long runs needed on the weekend whilst she keeps the kids entertained.
I love endurance sports and I’ve always been inspired by those that do it because it takes a lot of grit, determination and discipline. It’s also amazing how far two legs can take you! It’s also a great way to appreciate your local area. In my spare time I enjoy slow weekends with the family and try to be as present as possible.
When times get tough and I’m feeling low sometimes, things can spiral and I think the best cure for that for me is trying to get out of my own head with an activity whether that’s going outdoors, a run or a jigsaw puzzle with my 4-year-old!
I’ve always wanted to run the London Marathon, and I feel truly honoured to be running it for such an amazing cause.”
